The Perak Bar recently organized its first ever treasure hunt in 20 years. The treasure hunt was held in hopes that ties among lawyers and the community could be forged.

The treasure hunt which saw 42 people participated was divided into 22 teams. Treasure hunters included lawyers, bank officers, business owners, housewives and high school students.

The hunt kicked off at 9.30am and was over by 12 noon. The theme of the treasure hunt was ‘Hawaii Five –O’.

To make things even more interesting the treasure hunters had to answer 20 questions, each taking them around Ipoh Old Town on foot.

The team that participated are as follows : FD, Fido – ima , Honolululala, Kasturi, Kawabunga, Kiyomi, Pyrex, Seekers, Seekers Girl, Sunshine Girls, Team Dhamaka, The Cure, The Dulcis, The No Name, White Virus, Whatever Lah, Good Will, Misfits and Vermo.

The prizes were presented by The Perak Bar Chairman MrVivekanandan AMS Periasamy. The subcommittee is led by EncikIskandar and assisted by Karen, Azi, Ruzitah, Akmar, Ani, Ana, Shamer and Mr Ng.

All participants were treated to lunch.

BYGONE ERA: An exhibition called ‘A Tin Mining Family’ is taking place at Falim House, Jalan Lahat, until Aug 11

IPOH: IPOH World Sdn Bhd is holding an exhibition called “A Tin Mining Family”  at Falim House in Jalan Lahat, here.

It showcases the lives and times of Ipoh’s tin mining towkays and their families, cars, servants and tin mining ventures.

The event, which is on until Aug 11, is open from 10am to 6pm daily. It is sponsored by Amber Synergy Sdn Bhd.

There are 210 photographs dating back to before 1900, and a wide range of artifacts such as mining equipment, toys and kitchen equipment. There’s also a bullock cart, bicycle, trishaw and vintage car

There’s a mining scene featuring a dulang washer, bucket dredge and open-cast mining tools.

There is also a “Prospecting for tin in Kinta Valley” corner displaying mining equipment, a dried tin ore sample, set of standard measures and sampling tube.

A water filter, kueh steamer, sewing kit, knife sharpener and clay pots are on display in the kitchen area.

Ipoh World director Ian Anderson said the exhibition was aimed at promoting interest in Ipoh’s heritage among residents and tourists.

A free shuttle bus service departs from Ipoh train station at 10.45am, 1.45pm and 2.45pm to Falim House on weekends.

The bus leaves Falim House for the train station at 1.15pm, 2.15pm, 4.15pm and 5.15pm. Admission is free.
